Recap: West Johnston Wildcats vs. Hunt Warriors
The West Johnston Wildcats fell victim to the Hunt Warriors''s stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were outmatched by the Warriors at home and fell 35-0. West Johnston has struggled against Hunt recently, as their match on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Dane Trum threw for 65 yards on eight of 16 attempts. Josiah Wells was his top target, picking up 44 receiving yards and no touchdowns.
The critical scores for Hunt came from Tylee Jones, Jaquan Harper, and Khalyb Robinson.
The team won by holding West Johnston to a paltry no rushing yards and no passing yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Hunt's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out eight times before it was all said and done. It was a group effort, with three picking up two apiece.
West Johnston's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 5-4. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-2 C.B. Aycock (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 63.9% over those games). As for Hunt, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Johnston will face off against South Johnston at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hunt, they will head out on the road to face off against Fike at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fike will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
