Basketball Recap: Weldon Comes Up Short on the Road Against Warren County

Weldon had to start their season on the road on Tuesday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They came up short against the Warren County Eagles, falling 66-43. The Chargers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.

When it comes to explaining why Weldon lost, don't look at Kamya Coles. Despite the final result, she went 10 for 20 on her way to 21 points and eight rebounds. Coles' evening made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ezuri Reid, who posted seven points.

Warren County was led to victory by Iyauna Harley and Amari Freeman. Harley dropped a double-double on 33 points and 11 rebounds, while Freeman went 9 of 14 on her way to 19 points. Mariah Harris was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 17 boards.

The win got Warren County back to even at 1-1.

Weldon wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 41-38 victory against Southeast Halifax on the 6th. As for Warren County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 47-45 defeat against Northwest Halifax on the 4th.
