Morgan is 1-9 against Grantsville since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Trojans will square off against the Cowboys at 3:30 p.m. Morgan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Bear River hit Morgan with a four-run sixth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Trojans lost 8-0 to the Bears. The match marked the first time this season in which the Trojans were not able to get on the board.
Meanwhile, Grantsville waltzed into their contest on Saturday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against the Grizzlies. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cowboys have posted since March 8, 2024.
Jordan Fawson tossed a big game, striking out 11 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Cooper Castagno and Krue Warren did most of the damage at the plate: Castagno got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs, while Warren went 3-for-5 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Grantsville is undefeated when Castagno posts two or more runs, but 6-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Patton Rose, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
Grantsville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Grantsville pushed their record up to 10-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Morgan, their loss dropped their record down to 14-6.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Morgan hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .331. However, it's not like Grantsville struggles in that department as they've averaged .325. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Morgan came out on top in a nail-biter against Grantsville in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 7-5. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Cowboys have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
