Jack Britt is 0-7 against Gray's Creek since March of 2022 but things could change on Friday. The Jack Britt Buccaneers will take on the Gray's Creek Bears at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
While Jack Britt didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They never let Westover get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Wednesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Buccaneers considering their two-run performance the game before.
Kailey Crenshaw was a standout: she scored a run and stole Four bases. while getting on base in both of her plate appearances. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in stolen bases. Lauren McGarry also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Jack Britt was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .625. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Gray's Creek had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 19-0 win. The match marked the Bears' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Annie Ratliff was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Ratliff was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Amariya Green, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Skylar Belote was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
Jack Britt has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. Gray's Creek's record now sits at 7-1.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Jack Britt has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .489. However, it's not like Gray's Creek struggles in that department as they've averaged .519. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Jack Britt suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Gray's Creek when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Jack Britt avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
