Basketball Game Preview: Sylmar Spartans vs. Van Nuys Wolves

The Sylmar Spartans are taking a road trip to challenge the Van Nuys Wolves at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Sylmar will be strutting in after a win while Van Nuys will be coming in after a defeat.

Sylmar is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging an 80-41 victory over Panorama. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Meanwhile, Van Nuys came up short against Reseda on Thursday and fell 84-74. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Wednesday (65), the Wolves still had to take the loss.

Sylmar will need to focus on slowing down Jeremy Rivas, one of several Van Nuys players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 23 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Steven Tu, who had 22 points and six boards.

Van Nuys' loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Sylmar, their victory bumped their record up to 6-16.

Sylmar was able to grind out a solid win over Van Nuys when the teams last played last Wednesday, winning 70-58. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Van Nuys' Jaden Gervacio, who put up 21 points. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Sylmar still be able to contain Gervacio? There's only one way to find out.
