Recap: Wayne Badgers vs. Piute Thunderbirds
The Wayne Badgers were the 44-32 winner over the Piute Thunderbirds when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Wayne received a tough blow on Friday as they fell 45-27 to Piute. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Wayne has scored all season.
Wayne's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was AJ Vandyke, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Vandyke is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Macey Jackson, who scored five points along with five rebounds.
Wayne struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Wayne has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-6 record this season. As for Piute, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wayne will take on Milford at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Piute, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Bryce Valley at 6:00 p.m.
