Baseball Recap: St. Paul's Prep Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for St. Paul's Prep, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They came out on top against the Harvest Christian Academy Saints by a score of 4-1 on Thursday. This was payback for the Lions, who suffered an 18-5 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Mateo Talavera was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Talavera was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of St. Paul's Prep's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't).

Talavera wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lukas DiBenedetto, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

St. Paul's Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

St. Paul's Prep pushed their record up to 6-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Harvest Christian Academy, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Paul's Prep will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Dallas Academy at 4:00 p.m. on the 14th. As for Harvest Christian Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Heritage Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
