The Christian Patriots will take on the Point Loma Pointers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Point Loma will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Christian extended their winning streak to three on Thursday. The Patriots' pitchers stepped up to hand Cathedral Catholic a 7-0 shutout.
Alyssa McCurty made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lucy Sherburne, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Sammy Baca was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Point Loma, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Academy of Our Lady of Peace with a sharp 11-1 victory on Thursday. The Pointers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Like Christian, Point Loma also got a great game from a two-way player: Ryoko Schroth. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Schroth was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Point Loma let Annika Isaacson and Avery MacPherson run wild. Isaacson went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI, while MacPherson went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits Isaacson has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Tate Ondre, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Point Loma always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Academy of Our Lady of Peace only posted an OBP of .286.
Christian pushed their record up to 18-4-1 with the win, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for Point Loma, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5-1 record this season.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Christian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. However, it's not like Point Loma struggles in that department as they've averaged .331. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Christian skirted past Point Loma 2-1 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Patriots repeat their success, or do the Pointers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
