Football Recap: Chavez Takes a Loss

Chavez came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They were beaten by the Shafter Generals 56-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Titans in their meetings with the Generals: they've now lost three in a row.

Fares Babaad threw for 66 yards on nine of 17 attempts. Jordan Medrano was his top target, picking up 27 receiving yards. On the ground, Calvin Miller rushed for 40 yards.

Shafter's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ezekiel Osborne led the charge by throwing for 366 yards and five touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes. Those 366 passing yards gave Osborne a new career-high. Mariyon Sloan helped Osborne out on the ground, picking up 120 receiving yards and a pair of scores, while also rushing for 59 yards and two TDs.

Chavez's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Shafter, their win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chavez will square off against Kennedy at 7:30 p.m. on the 31st. The Titans will need to watch out since the Thunderbirds have now posted at least 31 points in their last three contests. As for Shafter, they will take on Wasco at 7:30 p.m. on the 31st. The Tigers will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.
