Basketball Recap: Bunker Hill Comes Up Short

Bunker Hill lost against East Burke back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Bunker Hill Bears took a blow against the East Burke Cavaliers, falling 85-29. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 465th, while the Cavaliers are ranked 22nd).

Bunker Hill's loss came despite strong showings from Rachel Beck and Kylie Killian. Beck posted seven points and eight rebounds, while Killian scored six points.

East Burke was led to victory by Braelyn Stilwell and Kara Brinkley. Stilwell dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten assists, while Brinkley dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 boards. Stilwell has been hot, having also posted five or more steals the last five times she's played. Kendall Mcfalls was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Bunker Hill's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-10. As for East Burke, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-1.

Bunker Hill has already played their next matchup, a 74-37 loss against Maiden on the 14th. As for East Burke, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 63-19 victory against Lincolnton on the 14th.
