Recap: Brunswick Railroaders vs. Smithsburg Leopards
The Brunswick Railroaders kicked off their season on the road on Wednesday and hit a couple of potholes. They took a 49-31 bruising from Smithsburg. Brunswick lost against Smithsburg in their previous head to head back in January, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 44-35 score last time.
Despite the loss, Brunswick still got an impressive performance from Andie Welsh, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Moya Nkong, who scored 5 points along with 13 rebounds.
Smithsburg found their leader in underclassman Claire Bono, who scored 15 points along with 6 steals. Skyla Mastronardi was another key contributor, scoring 7 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals.
Brunswick's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Smithsburg, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Brunswick will head out on the road to face off against Francis Scott Key at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Smithsburg, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Williamsport at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
