Preview: Mt. Olive Wildcats vs. SIUE East St. Louis Charter
The Mt. Olive Wildcats will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against SIUE East St. Louis Charter at 7:30 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Mt. Olive has struggled recently with seven losses in a row, while SIUE East St. Louis Charter will arrive with eight straight victories.
Mt. Olive pushed their score all the way to 57 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 69-57 to East Alton-Wood River.
Despite the loss, Mt. Olive got a solid performance out of Briley Viviano, who scored 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Viviano has scored all season. Dexter Frizzo was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Meanwhile, even though Valmeyer scored an imposing 58 points on Thursday, SIUE East St. Louis Charter still came out on top. SIUE East St. Louis Charter strolled past Valmeyer with points to spare, taking the game 72-58.
Kejuan Rives continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 32 points along with six rebounds and three steals. It was the first time this season that he grabbed two or more steals. Another player making a difference was Jaylen Wiley, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Mt. Olive's defeat was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-21. As for SIUE East St. Louis Charter, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-9 record this season.
