Volleyball Recap: Lake Placid Dragons vs. Avon Park Red Devils

Lake Placid and Avon Park squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Lake Placid had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Avon Park Red Devils by a score of 3-2. The Dragons haven't had much luck with the Red Devils recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Lake Placid took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The final score came out to 18-25, 25-13, 17-25, 25-18, 15-10.

Despite the defeat, Lake Placid had strong showings from Emily Tharp, who had 24 digs, and Kayla Oliveros, who had 25 digs. Tharp is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 12 or more in the last six games she's played dating back to last season.

Even though they lost, Lake Placid was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 14 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in October of 2023.

Avon Park's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Liceomariz (Lisy) Rosario led the charge by getting 40 digs. The team also got some help courtesy of Aliany Zavala, who had 39 digs.

Lake Placid's loss dropped their record down to 9-15. As for Avon Park, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-8.

Lake Placid does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Avon Park, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Cardinal Mooney on the 18th.
