Baseball Game Preview: Nixon-Smiley Mustangs vs. Randolph Ro-Hawks

The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs will head out to take on the Randolph Ro-Hawks at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Nixon-Smiley will be strutting in after a win while Randolph will be coming in after a loss.

Having struggled with 13 defeats in a row dating back to last season, Nixon-Smiley turned things around against Bloomington last Friday. They blew past the Bobcats/Lady Cats 14-1. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Mustangs' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Julian Amaya made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Amaya was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Garet Gonzales, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-3. Oscar Gamez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Randolph was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 6-1 to Crystal City.

Nixon-Smiley's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Randolph, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Nixon-Smiley might still be hurting after the 11-1 defeat they got from Randolph when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Nixon-Smiley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
