Basketball Recap: Avon's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Monday

Avon's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They managed a 57-53 victory over the Trinity Trojans. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while the Trojans are ranked 226th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Avon found their leader in freshman Jayde Palmer, who went 10 for 13 on her way to 24 points and seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Palmer has scored all season. Amelia Holbrook was another key player, putting up nine points and six rebounds.

Trinity lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Nevaeh Harrison, who posted 11 points along with seven assists and seven steals. The dominant performance gave Harrison a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaynia Campbell, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 14 points.

Avon's win bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Trinity, with the loss, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-2.

Avon wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 47-29 victory against North Royalton on the 28th. As for Trinity, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 33-27 win against Hilliard Davidson on the 27th.
