Baseball Game Preview: Richland Raiders vs. Loretto Mustangs

The Richland Raiders will take on the Loretto Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Tuesday, Richland got the win against Culleoka by a conclusive 13-3. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, Loretto was able to grind out a solid win over Columbia Central on Friday, taking the game 8-5.

The team relied heavily on Grayson Burleson, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He has become a key player for Loretto: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-13 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Casen Springer, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Richland is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Loretto, their win bumped their record up to 6-13.

Richland came out on top in a nail-biter against Loretto when the teams last played back in April of 2023, sneaking past 8-7. Do the Raiders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
