Softball Preview: Sierra Canyon Trailblazers vs. Kennedy Cougars
The Sierra Canyon Trailblazers will square off against the Kennedy Cougars at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Wednesday, Sierra Canyon was able to grind out a solid win over Muir, taking the game 4-1.
Meanwhile, Kennedy waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They walked away with a 9-5 victory over the Eagles.
Aubrie Rodriguez was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Rodriguez was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Melaney Velasco, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Williams, who went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Kennedy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chavez only posted a batting average of .310.
Kennedy's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-7. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Sierra Canyon, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
