Baseball Game Preview: Richmond Oilers vs. Swett Warriors

For the second straight game, Richmond will face off against Swett. The Oilers will take on the Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Richmond has given up an average of 11.3 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Richmond came up short against Swett on Wednesday, falling 13-3. The Oilers haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

For Swett's part, Jayden Barker and James Gibson were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Barker pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Gibson didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run while striking out nine over four innings pitched. He also allowed no hits, which is notable because Swett is undefeated when he allows at most one hit, but 3-4-2 otherwise. At the plate, Barker went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Gibson went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Gibson has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Michael Golden, who went 2-for-4 with five stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Ruben Ramirez-Lara was another, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Swett's record now sits at 6-4-2. As for Richmond, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-14.
