Volleyball Game Preview: Cyprus Pirates vs. Taylorsville Warriors

The Cyprus Pirates will head out to square off against the Taylorsville Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Considering both teams were shutout in their prior games, the pair is probably coming into this one with something to prove.

Cyprus is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering West Jordan just ended the team's three-match winning streak on Tuesday. They lost 3-0 to the Jaguars. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Pirates have suffered against the Jaguars since September 21, 2023.

While Cyprus was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into West Jordan's winning margin in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-15, 25-21, 25-22.

Despite the defeat, Cyprus had strong showings from Saris Rengifo, who had 15 digs and one assist, and Sara Johnson, who had seven digs. Rengifo has been hot recently, having posted 14 or more digs the last three times she's played.

Meanwhile, Taylorsville came up short against Hunter on Tuesday, falling 3-0.

Taylorsville's loss dropped their record down to 4-18. As for Cyprus, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-16.

Cyprus took their victory against Taylorsville in their previous meeting back in September by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
