Basketball Game Preview: Denver Waldorf Spartans vs. Front Range Baptist Falcons

The Denver Waldorf Spartans are taking a road trip to face off against the Front Range Baptist Falcons at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Denver Waldorf is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Denver Jewish Day just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 42-39. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Spartans came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 113th, while the Tigers are ranked 236th).

Meanwhile, Front Range Baptist was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 43-37 to Campion Academy. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Denver Waldorf will need focus on slowing down Ethan Pierce, one of several Front Range Baptist players who made an impact when they last played. He posted five points along with five boards and five steals. The dominant performance gave Pierce a new career-high in steals. Nathan Jaques was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to six rebounds and five steals.

Even though they lost, Front Range Baptist smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 40 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Denver Waldorf's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 12-3. As for Front Range Baptist, their loss dropped their record down to 10-6.

Denver Waldorf came up short against Front Range Baptist in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 59-50. Can Denver Waldorf avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
