Baseball Recap: Big Bear Has No Trouble Against Excelsior Charter

Big Bear hadn't done well against Excelsior Charter recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Bears blew past the Eagles 12-6. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won five matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Zen Sisson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up five earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Big Bear is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 3-4 otherwise. Sisson was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chase Wilson, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Jacob Gilligan was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

Big Bear now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Excelsior Charter, they dropped their record down to 2-14 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

Coincidentally, Big Bear and Excelsior Charter will both be playing Hesperia Christian the next time they take the field. The Bears will head out to face the Patriots at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Eagles will host them at 3:15 p.m. on the 22nd.
