Two dominant signal callers in Camden Hughes and Jimmy Alarcon are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The College Park Cavaliers will venture away from home to square off against the Cypress Lakes Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in College Park's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
College Park is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Eisenhower 45-6. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Cavaliers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 45th, while the Eagles are ranked 779th).
College Park can attribute much of their success to Julian Cromartie, who picked up 70 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.
College Park didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jonah Dinh and Marco Beltran. Dinh got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Cypress Lakes waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 21-12.
College Park better focus on containing Theodis Fields and Cj Lewis as the pair were huge in Cypress Lakes' win. Fields rushed for 91 yards and one touchdown, while Lewis picked up 100 receiving yards. Lewis has become a key player for Cypress Lakes: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least 100 receiving yards, but 3-4 otherwise.
Cypress Lakes' run defense was locked in: Magnolia could only muster 1.7 yards per carry. The team can thank De' Shaun Butler for the heroic effort on defense: he. Cypress Lakes' ground attack was stronger, having averaged 3.5.
Cypress Lakes' defense didn't let Chase Lowery, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for six sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Shaun Butler and Isidro Jimenez, who racked up five sacks between them.
College Park's record is now 11-0. As for Cypress Lakes, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Everything came up roses for College Park against Cypress Lakes when the teams last played back in September of 2021, as the team secured a 36-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cavaliers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
