Baseball Preview: Bangor Slaters vs. Lehighton Indians
The Bangor Slaters will square off against the Lehighton Indians at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Bangor will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
Things were looking good for Bangor after they put the first runs on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 12-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of Salisbury Township.
Nolan Koza was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. That run was his first of the season. Alex Farensbach was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Lehighton never got on the board in their matchup on Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Moravian Academy on Thursday. They blew past the Lions 16-1. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by seven runs or more this season.
Jayse Lawrence made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Cody Snyder was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-1. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brady Stubits, who scored a run while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.
Lehighton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Lehighton's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Bangor, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6-1.
