Basketball Recap: Grace Prep Takes a Loss

Grace Prep and Grace Community squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Grace Prep had to settle for second. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 50-49 to the Cougars. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Lions came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 199th, while the Cougars are ranked 611th).

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zaria Howard, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 12 boards. Howard is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 47% in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Angelina Medlock, who posted 13 points and three steals.

Grace Community was led to victory by Macy Loftis and Paige Gilmore. Loftis went 10-for-18 on her way to 25 points, while Gilmore dropped a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 boards gave Gilmore a new career-high.

Grace Prep has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 23-10 record this season. As for Grace Community, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 20-9.

Grace Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Grace Community has already played their next matchup (against Hyde Park), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
