Basketball Game Preview: Petersburg Buffaloes vs. Guthrie Jaguars

The Petersburg Buffaloes will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against the Guthrie Jaguars at 6:15 p.m. on Friday.

Petersburg's tournament run continued when they took on Woodson on Saturday. Petersburg was outmatched by Woodson and fell 60-28. The match marked the Buffaloes' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Despite the loss, Petersburg saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Gavin Horn posted 15 points. Another player making a difference was Eliab Nava, who scored seven points.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Guthrie). They claimed a resounding 74-34 win over Throckmorton. Winning may never get old, but the Jaguars sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Guthrie's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-7. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.3 points per game. As for Petersburg, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-6.

Petersburg came out on top in a nail-biter against Guthrie when the teams last played back in December of 2020, sneaking past 64-61. Will Petersburg repeat their success, or does Guthrie have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
