Basketball Recap: Wagner Takes a Loss

Wagner and Mahpiya Luta squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Wagner had to settle for second. They had to suffer through a 76-37 loss at the hands of the Mahpiya Luta Crusaders. The contest marked the Red Raiders' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

It was another big night for Ashlan Carlow-Blount, who almost dropped a triple-double with 29 points, 12 boards, and nine steals for Mahpiya Luta. Carlow-Blount is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 48 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Dorthie Mesteth, who posted seven points and three steals.

Wagner moved to 17-6 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.2 points over those games. As for Mahpiya Luta, the win keeps them at an undefeated 23-0.

Coming up, Wagner won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Sioux Valley at 1:45 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Sioux Valley's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last ten games. Mahpiya Luta does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
