Football Recap: Chaparral Piles Up the Points Against Haven

After low-scoring totals in their previous three game, Chaparral brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They breezed past the Haven Wildcats to the tune of 48-21 on Friday. The score was close at halftime, but the Roadrunners pulled away in the second half with 31 points.

A big part of Chaparral's win came down to the chemistry between Daniel Schmidt and his top target Kenny Diaz. Schmidt threw for 209 yards and three touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes while Diaz gained 214 total yards and two touchdowns. Those 209 passing yards gave Schmidt a new career-high.

Chaparral was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 274 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Chaparral's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 30.8 points over those games. As for Haven, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Chaparral will take on Collegiate at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Roadrunners will be up against the Spartans' rather soft defense (which has allowed 27.71 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Haven, they will challenge Kingman on Friday.
