It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Oxford Prep ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the American Leadership Academy-Johnston Patriots 5-4. Winning may never get old, but the Griffins sure are getting used to it with their 11th in a row.

The team relied heavily on Austin (A.P.) Currin, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season.

Oxford Prep pushed their record up to 14-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for American Leadership Academy-Johnston, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-6 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Oxford Prep will host Wake Prep Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for American Leadership Academy-Johnston, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Goldsboro at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
