Pulaski Academy (Little Rock, Ark.) always puts on a good show.

The high-risk, high-reward philosophy of head coach Kevin Kelley has been featured in Sports Illustrated, The New Yorker and the New York Times.

He's been known as the coach who never punts.

His teams always put up high scores and big statistics.

But Friday night was even a big night even by Kelley's standards.

His team piled up what the NFHS record book deems as a national record with 991 total yards in a 86-56 win over Little Rock Christian Academy (Little Rock, Ark.) at Joe B. Hatcher Stadium in Little Rock.

According to a story by Jeremy Muck of arkansasonline.com, quarterback Layne Hatcher (6-foot-1, 205-pound senior) set a state record with 745 yards passing to go along with nine touchdown passes. His 745 ranks sixth all-time nationally.

The Bruins' 13 total touchdowns is a state record and it was the first time they ever exceeded 80 points. Wide receiver Trajen Johnson caught 15 passes for 325 yards.

The game itself featured 1,368 total yards and 142 points and took 3 hours, 10 minutes to complete.

The Bruins improved to 6-0, while Little Rock Christian, which got a big performance from quarterback Jackson Bowersock (23 of 35, 374 yards, eight touchdowns), dropped to 5-1. The Bruins needed a 33-14 run in the fourth quarter to finally put the game away.
Heading into Friday's game, Pulaski Academy senior quarterback Layne Hatcher had offers from Murray State and Eastern Illinois. After Friday's game, those offers are likely to increase.
