Baseball Game Preview: Chipley Tigers vs. Holmes County Blue Devils

Chipley is 2-8 against Holmes County since March of 2023 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Tigers will face off against the Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Chipley is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They never let Ponce De Leon get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Blake Godwin, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Jackson Dietrich was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Chipley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .640. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ponce De Leon only posted an OBP of .167.

Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three game, Holmes County brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They blew past Vernon 12-2 on Wednesday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Blue Devils' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Chipley is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games. As for Holmes County, their win bumped their record up to 11-14.

Chipley suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Holmes County in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
