The Swansboro Pirates will head out to take on the East Carteret Mariners at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Swansboro will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run last Tuesday, then bounced right back against Laney on Friday. Swansboro came out on top against Laney by a score of 11-6.
Swansboro let James Andrews and Nick Quinones run wild. Andrews scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Quinones scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs Quinones has posted since back in April of 2024. Zack Phillips was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, East Carteret put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against North Lenoir as East Carteret made off with a 7-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Mariners, who have now won four games by six runs or more so far this season.
Bryan Hadder made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Luke Mcintosh, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Chase Roberson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
East Carteret kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matchups.
East Carteret pushed their record up to 6-0 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Swansboro, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Swansboro took their victory against East Carteret when the teams last played back in March of 2022 by a conclusive 18-10. Does Swansboro have another victory up their sleeve, or will East Carteret turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
