Football Recap: Exeter Starts Season with Loss on the Road + How To Watch

Exeter kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They were dealt a 41-0 loss at the hands of the Shafter Generals. The Monarchs lost against the Generals in their previous head to head back in August of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 22-14 score last time.

Andrew Plyman threw for 163 yards on seven of 17 attempts. Owen Robertson was his top target, picking up 136 receiving yards.

A big part of Shafter's victory came down to the chemistry between Ezekiel Osborne and his top target Alex Reyna. Osborne threw for 185 yards and one TD while completing 82.4% of his passes while Reyna picked up 87 receiving yards and one touchdown. Those 87 receiving yards gave Reyna a new career-high.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Exeter will face off against Woodlake at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Shafter, they will challenge Arvin at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
