Softball Recap: River Ridge Takes a Loss

River Ridge had lost four straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 7-9 to make it five. They came up short against the Peninsula Seahawks, falling 7-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Seahawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-2 back in April.

Jaylah Sok Vandergriff was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run.

As for Peninsula, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 17-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by six runs or more this season.

On Peninsula's side, Izzy Michaels was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was McKenna Peterson, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

River Ridge has already played their next contest, an 18-0 win against Lakes on the 5th. As for Peninsula, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 3-2 defeat against Timberline on the 6th.
