Basketball Recap: Ovilla Christian Comes Up Short

Ovilla Christian played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 73-46 loss at the hands of the First Baptist Saints. The Eagles' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

When it comes to explaining why Ovilla Christian lost, don't look at Sophie Henry. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 17 points and 21 boards. Henry's evening made it 15 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Collette Gentry, who posted eight points and nine rebounds.

Georgia Alford continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for First Baptist, putting up 25 points in addition to six boards and four steals. That's the most points Alford has posted since back in December of 2024. Meredith Quinn was another key player, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Ovilla Christian's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 14-6. As for First Baptist, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 22-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ovilla Christian will challenge Cambridge at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ovilla Christian is facing Cambridge at the right time seeing as Cambridge is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for First Baptist, they will face off against Prestonwood Christian North at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. First Baptist is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.6 points per game this season.
