Tucker County hasn't had much luck against Pendleton County recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Mountain Lions will host the Wildcat at 4:30 p.m.
Last Tuesday, Tucker County came up short against Petersburg and fell 6-1. The Mountain Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Ava Shaffer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits.
Meanwhile, Pendleton County waltzed into their contest on Friday with ten straight wins... but they left with 11. They blew past the Bulldogs 22-6. That's two games straight that the Wildcat have won by exactly 16 runs.
Susan Vincell made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Avery Townsend was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She has been hot, having also posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played. Madison Arbaugh was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
Pendleton County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .774. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Pendleton County's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.2 runs over those games. As for Tucker County, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Tucker County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .359. However, it's not like Pendleton County struggles in that department as they've averaged .405. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
