Preview: Eastwood Troopers vs. Frenship Tigers
Two dominant signal callers in Evan Minjarez and Hudson Hutcheson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Eastwood Troopers will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Frenship Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Eastwood comes in on nine and Frenship on three.
Eastwood put the finishing touches on their third blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Eastlake, posting a 56-22 win on the road. Given Eastwood's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 143rd, while Eastlake is ranked 475th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Minjarez, who threw for 356 yards and three touchdowns while completing 74.2% of his passes, and also rushed for 82 yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Jayden Martinez , who rushed for 131 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries.
Even though Frenship has not done well against San Angelo Central recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Frenship walked away with a 41-34 win over San Angelo Central. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Frenship got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Hutcheson out in front who threw for 413 yards and five touchdowns while completing 83.8% of his passes. Hutcheson is on a roll when it comes to passing yards, as he's now passed for 300 or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Leyton Stone, who picked up 123 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
Eastwood's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.8 points per game. As for Frenship, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as Eastwood and Frenship haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Eastwood commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 6.3 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like Frenship struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.9 per game. With these two high-octane teams facing off on Friday, fans should be in for an exciting offensive matchup. Come back here after the game to get analysis of the match and other football content.
