Softball Game Preview: Vermilion Catholic Eagles vs. Crowley Gent

The Vermilion Catholic Eagles will challenge the Crowley Gent at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Vermilion Catholic has given up an average of 9.7 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Vermilion Catholic lost 15-1 to New Iberia on Monday. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Yellowjackets: they've now lost four in a row.

Meanwhile, Crowley entered their tilt with Abbeville on Monday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They blew past the Wildcats 15-1. The Gent might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by ten runs or more this season.

Erika Hebert made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zailey Smith, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Julia Trahan was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Crowley's victory bumped their record up to 13-10. As for Vermilion Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8-1.

Vermilion Catholic suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Crowley in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
