Softball Recap: Hammond Central's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

There's no place like home for Hammond Central, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the River Forest Ingots on Friday, sneaking past 11-10. The win was some much needed relief for the Wolves as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Evalyse Pabey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and seven unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks.

On the hitting side, Hammond Central got a massive performance out of Raven Jo Floyd, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Neveena Funches, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.

Hammond Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as River Forest only posted a batting average of .194.

The victory got Hammond Central back to even at 7-7. As for River Forest, they moved to 4-10 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hammond Central will welcome Hammond Morton at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. As for River Forest, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lake Station Edison at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Fighting Eagles will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
