Baseball Recap: Campbell-Savona Comes Up Short

Campbell-Savona extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 5-11 in the process. They lost 11-0 to the Oakfield-Alabama Hornets. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hornets apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in June of 2021.

Campbell-Savona got a good showing from Zac Corell, who didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. What's more, Corell gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April.

As for Oakfield-Alabama, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-8. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by seven runs or more this season.

On Oakfield-Alabama's side, David Schnaufer made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Oakfield-Alabama is 4-1 when Schnaufer posts eight or more strikeouts, but 6-7 otherwise. Schnaufer was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jackson Gilbert, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jack Cianfrini, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

As of now, neither Campbell-Savona nor Oakfield-Alabama have any future games scheduled.
