Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Monterey was a bit more limited in their matchup on Monday. They fell just short of York Institute by a score of 3-2. Wildcats fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Dragons since on Monday.
Dylan Whitehead put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out 12 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He is becoming a predictor of Monterey's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 3-1 (and 5-9 when he doesn't). Whitehead was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
The victory made it two in a row for Watertown and bumps their season record up to 17-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Monterey, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.
