Baseball Game Preview: Hudson Bluehawks vs. Maple Hill Wildcats

The Hudson Bluehawks will take on the Maple Hill Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Hudson 3.1, Maple Hill 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Hudson's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They blew past Rensselaer 10-0. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Bluehawks' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Eli Conte was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Joe Simmons was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Meanwhile, Maple Hill entered their tilt with Cairo-Durham on Monday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Mustangs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcats have posted against the Mustangs since March 29, 2018.

Maple Hill's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Hudson, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-3.

Hudson came out on top in a nail-biter against Maple Hill when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. Do the Bluehawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
