Basketball Game Preview: Reed-Custer Comets vs. Seneca Fighting Irish

Reed-Custer is 1-9 against Seneca since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Reed-Custer Comets will venture away from home to take on the Seneca Fighting Irish at 6:45 p.m.

Last Monday, Reed-Custer came up short against Lisle and fell 53-42. The Comets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Reed-Custer saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Alyssa Wollenzien posted ten points and four steals. Wollenzien also brought in his first three-point shooting accuracy of the season. Another player making a difference was Morgan Toler, who had four points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Reed-Custer was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Seneca). They really took it to Newark for the full four quarters, racking up a 79-21 win. With the Fighting Irish ahead 45-10 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Seneca is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 22-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.8 points over those games. As for Reed-Custer, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-15.

Reed-Custer lost to Seneca on the road by a decisive 52-38 margin when the teams last played back in November of 2023. Can Reed-Custer avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
