Valparaiso skates past Michigan City with ease

Recap: Valparaiso Vikings vs. Michigan City Wolves

The Valparaiso Vikings stacked a tenth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They blew past Michigan City 61-34 on the road. Given Valparaiso's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 58th, while Michigan City is ranked 263rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Valparaiso was led to victory by Lillian Barnes and Becca Gerdt. Barnes scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and seven assists, while Gerdt scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and seven assists. Barnes is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Raegan O'halek, who scored eight points along with three steals and two blocks.

Valparaiso has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. As for Michigan City, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-15.

Valparaiso will be playing at home against Morgan Township at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Michigan City won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against La Porte at 6:00 p.m. on January 24th.
