Softball Recap: Hibbing Takes a Loss

If Hibbing was riding high fresh off their 11-5 takedown of Cherry on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Bluejackets lost 14-4 to the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks on Tuesday. The Bluejackets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Thunderhawks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Hibbing saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma McDowell, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Another was Kendal Gustavsson, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Hibbing's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Grand Rapids, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-5 record this season.

Hibbing will challenge Denfeld at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Hunters have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.67 runs per game on average), something the Bluejackets will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Grand Rapids, they will head out to square off against Rock Ridge co-op [Eveleth-Gilbert/Virginia] at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
