Baseball Recap: Gooding Takes a Loss

If Gooding was riding high fresh off their 10-0 takedown of Glenns Ferry last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Senators fell 12-9 to the Wendell Trojans on Tuesday. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Breyden Bunderson put in work while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. He has become a key player for Gooding: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 1-2 otherwise. Bunderson was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

Bunderson wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Eli Esterbrook, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Nathan Ritter also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Gooding's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Wendell, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gooding will face off against North Fremont at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Wendell, they will take on Firth at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season.
