Basketball Recap: Ariyah Burke's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Jackson over Jasper County

Jackson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They received a blow as they fell 51-35 to the Jasper County Hurricanes. The Red Devils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hurricanes apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Several Red Devils players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ariyah Burke, who posted 11 points. Burke continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Elicia Smith, who scored eight points.

Jackson's record now sits at 3-7. As for Jasper County, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jackson and Lamar County will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Jasper County, they will venture away from home to square off against Centennial at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Jasper County is facing Centennial at the right time seeing as Centennial is stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
