Softball Recap: Gibbs Comes Up Short

Gibbs had lost ten straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 0-10 to make it 11. They lost 26-16 to the Anclote Sharks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Sharks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 23-2 back in March.

Kayley Hecimovich led a balanced group of hitters, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Shania Fisher-Sutton, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI.

As for Anclote, with the win, they broke their eight-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-15. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Anclote's side, Rileigh Teague and Janelle Hammond did most of the damage at the plate: Teague got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI, while Hammond got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. Those four runs gave Hammond a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Keesha-Ann Rap'Er, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI.

Gibbs does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Anclote, they are taking a road trip to square off against Dunedin at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Falcons' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Sharks' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
