Basketball Recap: Wauneta-Palisade Takes a Loss

After soaring to 63 points the game before, Wauneta-Palisade was a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They were dealt a 58-30 defeat at the hands of the Maywood/Hayes Center Wolves. The Broncos haven't had much luck with the Wolves recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Wauneta-Palisade's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Nathan Hiett, who posted ten points, and Grayden Sutherland, who had eight points and nine boards. The dominant performance also gave Hiett a new career-high in steals (two). Ayden Baker also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Maywood/Hayes Center's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Charlie Callis, who went 5-for-7 to rack up 14 points and six steals. Another player making a difference was Keenan Richards, who went 6-for-9 en route to 17 points and eight rebounds.

Wauneta-Palisade's defeat dropped their record down to 2-17. As for Maywood/Hayes Center, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season.

Wauneta-Palisade has already played their next contest, a 57-47 victory against Arthur County on the 21st. As for Maywood/Hayes Center, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 74-53 loss against Perkins County on the 21st.
