Baseball Game Preview: Heppner/Ione Mustangs vs. Elgin Huskies

The Heppner/Ione Mustangs will challenge the Elgin Huskies at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

On Saturday, Heppner/Ione didn't have quite enough to beat Irrigon and fell 10-9.

Meanwhile, Elgin might've scored the first runs on Tuesday, but it was Union/Cove who claimed the real prize. The Huskies came up short against the Bobcats, falling 14-8. The Huskies have struggled against the Bobcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Roan Spratling put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Spratling was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, Kadin Allen made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.

Elgin's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Heppner/Ione, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Heppner/Ione got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 against Elgin by a conclusive 19-0 score. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Huskies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
