Hays was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to first in Western Athletic. The Indians beat Garden City 29-21 earlier in the week.
Hays was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating the Buffaloes 29-21. Ryan Cornelsen's team came in at 22 in the state poll after placing at number 39 last week.
Liberal's dynamic duo of Britton Abbott and Trenton Hammond proved tough for Dodge City to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Abbott threw for 418 yards and three touchdowns and Hammond had 189 yards receiving. JJ Lewis helped Liberal's passing attack out by catching six balls for 133 yards.
Middleton Blaik was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 33 carries, he ran for 201 yards as the Demons lost to the Demons. Newton Kelan also contributed to the rushing game with 20 yards on the ground.
Liberal's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Redskins feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Abbott has thrown for 1201 yards and 13 touchdowns this season, while Hammond has 30 catches for 545 yards. Abbott also leads the league in rushing with 293 yards.
A big matchup in Western Athletic this week will be when Dodge City takes on Great Bend. At the moment, Dave Foster's team is in third, while the Panthers are in second.
Great Bend suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 41-0 loss to Great Bend. Bo Black's team had been ranked 24th, but fell to 49 following the defeat.
